Information:
The invaluable Music from Six Continents Series is once again represneted here by its 1998 series devoted to the music of the composer behind the series and the label which produced the series (!) - Nancy Van De Vate.
The four large-scale works on this recording were all composed in 1996 & 1997.
The Concerto for Pipa reflects the composer's long-standing interest and love of music from the Orient. She spent four years living in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Western Front is inspired by major historical events of the 20th Century.
The Concerto for Harp is a welcome addition to a harp repetoire rarely added to in the last decades.
Finally, the Choral Suite brings together all the choral parts from the composer's opera based on the Jules Verne novel "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", and shows the composer's lighter-side.
The American/Austrian composer Nancy Van de Vate has now composed more than 130 works in virtually all forms. Born in New Jersey, the composer now lives permanently in Austria and holds dual citizenships. Her music is performed all over the world, she has received many commissions and awards and many of her works have been recorded. She founded the International League of Women Composers in 1975. With 26 orchestral and orchestral-choral works recorded to date, Van de Vate is one of the most recorded living composers of orchestral music in the world.
