Information:
The four composers on this disc all attended the University of Illinois during the 1960s. Burt Levey was born in Brooklyn in 1936 and studied with Homer Keller and Kenneth Gaburo.
Yehuda Yannay was born in 1937 in Timisoara in western Romania. His family emigrated to Israel in 1951.
Ben Johnston has enjoyed the most exposure on recordings of these four. The Macon, Georgia native not only attended the University of Illinois but also the creative hotbed of Mills College. His encounters with Harry Partch changed his compositional outlook for good.
Salvatore Martirano was a jazz pianist and electronic music pioneer. He was born in Yonkers in 1927 and died in 1995.
