Pianist Barbara Nissman inaugurates a new series for Pierian devoted to "the pieces I most enjoy playing in concert. Each volume features a variety of composers and highlights the contrasting sound worlds they conceived at the piano. Each composer paints his canvas with a unique, emotional palette. Most were pianists themselves, and their knowledge of the instrument gave them the freedom to experiment and explore." Volume I includes Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata, four of Prokofiev's "Vision Fugitives" and his Third Piano Sonata, Schubert's "Wanderer" Fantasy, Liszt's Mephisto Waltz and his transcription of Wagner's "Liebestod," and offers Chopin's Db Nocturne as an encore.
