| Information: THIS SET WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLY BY REQUEST - NO AUTOMATIC MAILINSG. IT ALSO WILL BE MAILED OUT ONE MAILING PERIOD AFTER YOUR REQUEST! THANK YOU. This is Barbara Nissamn's highly-acclaimed and valuable set of recordings - originally issued in 1989 on the Newport Classics label as #85510 & 85511 - presenting the complete keyboard output of the great Argentinean composer. Nissman has played and lived with this music for a very long time. Her performances reflect this knowledge of the composer's well-known trademarks of sharp contrasts, sudden accents, syncopations, Latin rhythms, motoric rhythmic energy, ostinati, polytonality, and a wide array of colors and effects. She met and played for Ginastera in 1971. This meeting left an impression on both of them. Though Ginastera promised Nissman a Concerto for Piano and Percussion just for her, his failing health meant this never came to be. He did however dedicate his Third Piano Sonata to her. Ginastera himself said of Barbara, "A magnificent interpreter of my music, one of the best pianists in the world." Chosen one of the Best Recordings of 1989 by both Gramophone and American Record Guide: "This is some of the most remarkable piano playing I have heard in many years." American Record Guide "This disc shows off well her magnetic keyboard personality and electrifying, stunning technique: even in an age where high virtuosity is commonplace, Nissman’s playing here is extraordinary."
