Information:
The Korean-American pianist Caroline Hong has been recognized by John Corigliano
as "one of the greatest pianists I have ever heard."
She has garnered much praise and acclaim for her playing and has appeared with
orchestras and in recital all over the country. Ms. Hong currently teaches at
Ohio State University, where this recording was made in 2002. The Corigliano
is a set of five studies combined into the episodic form and character of a fantasy.
Lukas Foss' work was commissioned through the American Music
Center and composed in 1981. Though a twelve-tone motive reigns, it is not twelve-tone
music. The Sonata by the Australian-born Carl Vine was commissioned by the Sydney
Ballet. As with so much of Vine's music it takes its experience and expressions
from not only European tradition but also elements of avant-garde jazz.
