Information:
Clipper Erickson explores the amazing ability of the piano to become an orchestra in this program of 17 brilliant and colorful transcriptions. Some of these are faithful representations of works in their original form while others are like a new creation indulging the wild imagination of the transcriber. From the comfortable faithfulness of Bach, the sensuousness of Rachmaninov, the jazzy style of Gershwin to the dazzling fantasies of Liszt and John Ogden, the listener is treated to a panoramic tour of the piano.
Clipper Erickson made his debut at the age of 19 in Los Angeles. He studied with John Ogden at Indiana University, also taking studies at Juilliard School and Yale University. He has received many honors and is a prize winner at both the Busoni and Tchaikovsky international piano competitions. His previous DTR releases include American Journey (#9807) featuring music composed entirely by American composers, and Woven Images (DTR2003), including a premiere recording of a work written especially for him by composer Allen Krantz.
