Khaner, principal flutist of the Philadelphia Otchestra, is also recognized as
one of the world's leading instrumental soloists. His recordings of solo flute
music for independent British label AVIE are among the label's best-selling titles
and have become "must-have" recordings for flute players and enthusiasts, chamber
music fans, and the broader classical listenership. Khaner's fifth CD for
AVIE offers up a feast of outstanding Romantic solo flute music. Charles-Marie
Widor's Suite was composed for legendary French flautist Paul Taffanel; Benjamin
Godard, like Widor was on the staff of the Paris Conservatoire and his untimely
death robbed him of the opportunity to hear the first performance of his Suite.
Prolific German composer Carl Reinecke lived a long life, and the large body of
music he wrote is dominated by chamber music. Saint-Saëns originally composed
his Romance for flute and orchestra, and he later created a version with piano
accompaniment for Taffanel, with whom he toured. The Franck Sonata needs little
introduction; versions of this famous sonata, originally for violin, are heard
regularly in the concert hall in arrangements for flute, viola and 'cello.
